ÑOQAYKU is an ongoing research project by Alex Guevara resulting in a series of animated pictures about the armed conflict that took place in Peru during the years 1980-2000. During that time, Peru was involved in chaos as several crises erupted that had been evolving throughout its history into political violence, corruption, racism and poverty. The population suffered murders, abductions, forced disappearances, torture, unjust detentions, violations of human rights and above all, the racist and discriminatory view of their own country. ÑOQAYKU, through images and sounds, seeks to create an identification with the victims of the conflict, implying that they were not the others, that they were us. UNIT is an audiovisual live performance. It’s a compilation of previous audiovisual pieces of Alex Guevara.
